Clastic Sediments and Organic Sediments
There are many kinds of sediments, but most fall into one of two groups: sediments composed of fragments eroded from existing rocks (clastic sediments) and sediments precipitated or accumulated by biological agents (organic sediments).

Over many centuries, the grains of sand from these dunes may end up as particles in clastic sediments.

The calcium carbonate of these oyster shells may be broken down and accumulate into organic sediments over time.
