Ice Volume
About 10% of the earth’s land surface is covered by ice. Based on the size and shape of ice masses on earth we differentiate between: valley glaciers and continental glaciers, which include ice caps and ice sheets.  Ice sheets and ice caps are the largest accumulation of ice completely covering the underlying topography of the land. Currently, most of the ice on earth is stored in the ice sheets covering Greenland and Antarctica.
